Let's Abolish Valentine's Day and Celebrate "Valentunes" Day

This is a short video recreation of how I intend to spend my Valentune's Day rocking out all day. If someone ever told you that you cannot dance to RUSH they have obviously never seen me after I get out of the shower and really let loose.

Most people who know me are familiar with my thoughts on Valentines Day.

What exactly are those thoughts you might be asking?

It's pretty simple actually. Valentine's Day is a man-made holiday dreamed up by corporate fat cats to line their pockets with the money of us poor shlubs. who feel like participation is expected of us. Don't get me wrong. I love fat cats. Just not corporate ones.

My husband and I used to have a deal. I told him we should treat each other well 365 days a year instead of focusing on just one "special" day. By doing that simple act I absolved him of the responsibility of running to Walmart at the last minute to get me a large pink stuffed gorilla holding a heart emblazoned with the words "I Find You Very A Peeling" on it. Gorilla, Banana- a peeeling " where do I come up with this stuff?

 I decided a long time ago that when I love someone, I don't need a card with a fat faced cupid draped in a bed sheet to celebrate that love.

That's it - I am officially cancelling Valentines Day.

That statement is the closest I have ever come to making a proclamation in my whole life. All I need now is a bell, a podium in the town square and a powdered wig and it would be a "thing".

I will instead choose to celebrate two things that I love very much - Music and Peanuts - Peanuts the cartoon not the legume. That rhymed without my even trying. Kudos to me on a job well done with that one.

I LOVE music. It is something that has always been a shining light in my life. Music energizes me, it motivates me and inspires me. It lifts me up.

I love Charles S Schultz and the whole Peanuts gang. I grew up watching all the holiday specials and I still can't get enough of them. I can relate to them in my life. Many times, I've felt like while people were getting bags full of candy I was getting...You guessed it - a ROCK. But now I'm getting off track.

I will be spending my "Valentune's Day" celebrating the music of some of my favorite Canadian Bands. There are so many awesome bands I feel never got the proper due I want to focus on them today. 

Valentune's Day is on a Saturday this year and from the moment I wake up till my head hits the pillow I will be jamming in my house, in my car- EVERYWHERE. My playlist will feature RUSH, Truimph ,Barenaked Ladies, Loverboy, and for all you true music lovers Miss Anne Murray.

Yes, Anne Murray. I love her and Karen Carpenter.  If anyone would like to challenge me on this, I'd be happy to create a post about why the purity of their voices still makes me believe in true talent and forget about the evils of autotune. At least for a while.

On a serious note, yes, I can be serious.

I don't dislike Valentines Day.  

On the contrary I'm a big fan of love. I am extremely sentimental. I love the beauty of flowers and if I could elect Chocolate as President of the United States of America I would do it. That would probably unite us as a country more than anything else ever could.

I think most people who know me would agree I am not shy about expressing my feelings and if life has taught me anything it's that you should say I love you often and emphatically. My husband used to tell me, "It's good to be loved by you Annette' That was probably one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me.

Showing real love has nothing to do with gifts. It has everything to do with being authentic and making those who are special to you feel that way as much as we can.

I think Maya Angelou said it best when she said, "I've learned people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did but people will never forget how you made them feel" Truer word were never spoken.

Love you guys and I mean that.
