The old saying that a negative attitude will never give you a positive life is 100% correct. If there is one thing I have learned in life, it's that no matter what, you have to look for the positive in any situation. I believe that words have power. Believing that things will be a certain way gives that situation power. I have several positive affirmations that I say out loud to myself every day. Even Snoop Dog knows the power of Affirmations. Have you ever listened to the song he wrote for his Grandkids? It's called Affirmations, and I was never a musical Snoop fan, but the guy has a good heart, and he's on to something with that song, and that's something I can get behind. One positive thought or word to someone can change the trajectory of the day.
I have a really good friend with whom I chat all the time. You know how I know he's a really good friend? He went with me to see Alanis Morrisette and Joan Jett at Merriweather Post, even though he wasn't really a fan of either one. Then, coming home from the show, we got caught in a torrential downpour. He's a good egg. We were chatting the other day, and he told me that he had gotten a negative report from the doctor. Nothing confirmed, but going through some tests and trying to figure it out. I told him that in the past 3 years, since my husband passed, I had two negative reports myself, and both had turned out to be ok.
Later that evening, I was thinking- I do that sometimes. I thought if I ever had a cancer diagnosis, that's exactly how I would refer to it. I would not say I have cancer. I would say I was diagnosed with cancer. Words have power. Our attitudes and the way we approach life have power.
As we welcome this Easter holiday I reflect on how important Easter was to my family growing up. I went to Catholic School and we would do the stations of the cross and the impact that had on me. On Good Friday businesses including Banks would shut down from noon until three o'clock in observance of the hours it was said that Jesus hung on the cross. Everything now is so different. But it's ok we can still keep old traditions alive if we want to.
Today I wore shirt to work not in honor of the Easter Bunny or Bugs Bunny but in honor of the most iconic Bunny of all time - The Playboy Bunny 😆. Most people who really know me understand I joke around ALOT-but I'm very serious about respecting and understanding what the Easter season is truly all about. Easter was one holiday where everyone in my family went to church. We always got a new Easter dress and usually white patent leather shoes. Often I would get a hat and a matching purse. Omg what about the Easter Baskets and the Easter Egg Hunt? It's not about Bunnies or Candy it's about remembering and being grateful for all that we have and the reason that we have it. I remind myself daily. There by the grace of God go I. Don't save the gratitude just for Thanksgiving spread a little bit around on Easter. You will be glad u did. Happy Easter 🐇
