I have always felt that it's not the big grand gestures in life that matter. Not at all. It's the little things that bring a smile to someone's face simply because they know you were thinking of them, and that means everything. I think, after these last few years, I really have come to realize that one of the things I have missed the most from being married is having someone who was proud of me. Proud of my spunk, my humor, my determination, and my love. I've been proud of myself for sure, but it's just different when someone you care about appreciates all that you are and everything you do. It should be easy to find, but you would be surprised.
My husband was very opinionated. I can be as well. I have gone through all sorts of different hair transformations over the years. Different lengths, different colors, and inevitably, he would always say the same thing. "Why can't you just grow your hair long?" and I, being me, would usually say, "It's my hair, and I'll do what I want." When he got sick, I really didn't have time to do much with my hair, so I kept cutting it. After he passed, I decided to grow it out, and you know what? I loved it long! Yesterday, I sat down and thought to myself, Annette, why did you have to be so stubborn? You could have just grown your hair to make him happy. I'm a stubborn person. I admit it. It's in my DNA. I took a 23andMe test the other day, and it came back 50% Italian, 50% Irish, and 100% stubborn... no matter how I do the math, it doesn't add up.
Here's a little of my hair through the years...

The bottom line is if you care about somebody do nice things for them. Do nice things for absolutely no reason. Do nice things sometimes because someone asks you to. I don't often say I have regrets. But sometimes when I brush my hair I sit and think about things. The other day I was thinking of starting to lighten my hair. You know gradually keep the dark base but add some brown highlights. I was speaking to the girl cutting my hair and I mentioned this. And she said well your hair is so long. It would probably do a lot of damage to bleach it. She said maybe you should just cut it all off and start all over again.
I'm not a violent person, but if I wasn't sitting in a chair, I probably would've dropped kicked her into next Tuesday. Now that my hair is where it's at I can't imagine cutting it. I know my husband would be happy about that.
I hate to quote Dr. Phil but he often says would you rather be right or would you rather be happy? It's a choice. I choose happy - for myself and anyone else I can bring a smile too. 😃 and the hair stays .
