I have a recurring theme in my life. I get too involved in things that, at the end of the day, should never be an area of focus. Plain and simple. I did something today that I should have done 3 months ago. When I did it, I felt bad. But only for a moment. As I sit here now, I feel like the weight of the world has been lifted off my shoulders. Don't ever give your ALL to things that don't deserve your ALL. Period!
You DO NOT have to play into people's insecurities to make them feel better about themselves, and I'm done doing that. If you don't believe enough in yourself and what you bring to the table, then shame on YOU. We can always lift people up but that does NOT mean you can use them as a crutch. People who make EVERYTHING about them are truly narcissists, and I advise therapy- not coddling and constant reassurance. It gets very old, very quickly. There is an old saying: Negative Attention is Still Attention, even pushing 60.
It is never OK to expect other people to pacify someone to make things go smoothly. It's okay to walk away. You will never have greatness when you settle for mediocrity. Validation and kudos are important, BUT I never want someone to piss on my leg and tell me it's raining. I don't always handle things the right way, but everyone has a breaking point, including me.
You cannot pour from an empty vessel. I trust God. I know he has a divine plan for my life, and I move forward with confidence that, for once, I chose what was right for Annette, even if I let people down. I don't need constant validation. I know who I am, and I know my heart. I walked away from something that at one time gave me great joy and inspiration and now not so much. It's a good day, and I'm grateful for all I have and all I am.
Here's a portion of a text I received the other night. I'm not going to post the whole thing - I think this says it all. What you allow to happen is what it will become.
